Training
 |
Cadets learn valuable skills while in the program not only for their careers as fire fighters, but also for life. Trust is built from the ground up, bonds are formed, friendships are made, and brotherhood is established.
Cadets train with the rest of the department each Wednesday night begining at 1900 hrs. Each is expected to be at the weekly trainings ready to learn new skills and brush-up on ones previously learned. Before a Cadet may board any apparatus, they are expected to know what is located in each compartment, and be able to locate tools and other items when they are called for.
| Special Training Oportunities
- 1st Annual Cadet Training Academy: The newest aspect of the Cadet program is the recent introduction of The Cadet Training Academy. Our Academy will run this year, 2009 in the month of July. The academy will run from July 20th 2009 thru July 24th 2009. In the Cadet Training Academy youth from the greater Howell area are encouraged to learn about the fire service and the daily duties of firefighters both in the station and at emergency scenes. Fifteen area youth are selected from a pool of applicants and for a minimal fee are enrolled into the program. The program is a forty hour week from 8am till 4pm every day. At the end of our program any open Cadet positions may be filled by these Cadets. For more information or an application to the program please contact Cadet Advisor Andrew Johnson, contacts are listed under the cadet link contacts
- If a Cadet shows interest, willingness to learn, and loyalty to the department, they are usually offered extra training oportunities. This could mean enrollment in a fire academy.
- Cadets may also be invited to participate in the many special teams on the fire department such as Technical Rescue, Dive Rescue, Haz-Mat, Arson, and Honor Guard.
