Cadets learn valuable skills while in the program not only for their careers as firefighters, but also for life. Trust is built from the ground up, bonds are fordged, friendships are made.

Special Training Oportunities
- Cadet Training Academy: is the newest aspect of the Cadet program, the introduction of the Cadet Training Academy allows students from the Howell area to understand the baiscs of what firefighting is all about. In the Cadet Training Academy youth from the greater Howell area are encouraged to learn about the fire service and the daily duties of firefighters both in the station and at emergency scenes. Fifteen area youth are selected from a pool of applicants and for a fee of $175.00 per student are enrolled into the program. The program is a full week of classroom and practical training and drills from 8am till 4pm every day. At the end of our program cadets are invited to attend monthly trainings throughout the year, as well as have the possibility of promotion to any open paid cadet positions. - Auxiliary Cadets meet the third thrusday of every month at 1900hrs.
- Part Paid Cadets train with the rest of the department each Wednesday night begining at 1900 hrs. Each is expected to be at the weekly trainings ready to learn new skills and brush-up on those previously learned.
- If a Cadet, regardless of paid or auxiliary status, shows interest, willingness to learn, and loyalty to the department, they are often offered extra training oportunities. This could mean enrollment in a fire academy. Cadets may also be invited to participate in the many other special teams on the fire department such as Technical Rescue, Dive Rescue, Haz-Mat, Arson, and Honor Guard.
