The mission of the Howell Area Fire Authority Cadet Program is to recruit and educate area youth in the general operations of the fire service. The Program will provide a safe learning environment for area youth to experience and learn about a variety of the fire service tasks. Students will learn in a classroom setting as well as hands-on work.

Some students may be eligible to participate in a formal testing process for promotion to a part paid position when available.

  • Auxiliary Cadets are age 15 - 18 and attend meetings on the third Tuesday of every month at 1900hrs.  to sharpen the skill set learned through out the program. These Cadets are invited and encouraged to participate in many other department details as well.

  • Part Paid Cadets are Cadets age 16 - 18 that have good work ethic, dedication to the cadet program and wish to continue their journey in the fire service. These individuals will be put through the hiring process and evaluated in a series of tests. The top scoring individuals will then fill any open positions and participate in the same training as our firefighters on a weekly basis after being hired.

  • The top Cadets from the program maybe offered the training necessary to become a certified Firefighter as well as a position as a Firefighter for the Howell Area Fire Department.
