Fire Department Staff

Staffing of the department consists of full-time, part-time and paid-on-call personnel.  Full-time staffing consists of a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief of Operations, Deputy Chief of Administration/Fire Marshal, Fire Inspector, and nine Firefighters. Three fulltime firefighters staff the main station 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our part-time staff consists of an Administrative Assistant, and 9 firefighters working at our 3 satellite stations, 10 hours per weekday. Paid-on-call firefighters respond 24/7, supplementing responding crews during staffed hours and respond at all other times of need. Our total staffing is maintained at about 60 employees total.

Service Area

The primary service area is approximately 145 square miles which includes the City of Howell and the Townships of Cohoctah, Howell, Marion and Oceola. This area is comprised of approximately 45,000 residents.

Fire Stations

The Howell Area Fire Department operates five engine companies out of our four stations. We also house several county Special Response Team apparatus that support dive, hazmat, and technical rescue responses.
